Original ways to announce your engagement (or wedding)

The classic option: an engagement party! In many cultures, it is custom to have a big engagement party to announce and celebrate the happy event. Would you like to make this classic announcement a bit more special? Then why not organise a surprise engagement party? Don’t tell your guests why you're hosting a party and share the big news at the height of the party. Success guaranteed!

Or perhaps you’re not really into parties and lively crowds? You could announce your engagement differently by sending out gifts, for example. After all, who doesn't like to receive a gift? You can give coffee mugs saying ‘she said yes’ or make bags with typical wedding sweets. Everyone will instantly get the message and be pleased with your gift.

Perhaps you already have children together or from a previous relationship. They should be the first ones to hear the great news and children will feel very special when they are involved in the announcement. So how can you engage your children in this? You can take a great photo with all of you on it, and with the young children wearing a T-shirt saying ‘my mummy and daddy are getting married’. You can also have the children carry a sign saying ‘daddy asked… and mummy said yes’ or something similar. There are no wrong choices, as long as you and the kids have fun!

Another option is to have an engagement photoshoot. You can hire a professional photographer or use your own camera and get a friend to help you. Make a romantic photoshoot and have the photos printed. Wouldn’t it be such a surprise for your family and friends to get an envelope in the post with a photo announcing your engagement? You can also share these photos online, of course. If you want to announce your engagement on social media, we offer some tips and tricks below for an original post on social media channels.

Announcing your engagement on social media

Maybe you don’t want to make a big fuss about the announcement, or you want to post it online so everyone will know it instantly. So how can you make such an online announcement just as special as telling everyone face to face?

The easiest way is to post a photo of your engagement ring! And there are still many creative ways to do this. For example, with your partner holding your hand, with the ring laying next to your pet or child, or with a ‘getting married’ caption.

Or maybe you don’t have rings, or you don’t want to focus on them. If your partner has proposed to you super romantically, you can share a photo of the proposal. Such photos are always a great hit with family and friends and they can instantly picture the romantic scene.
