It is important to know which shoe type and heel height you can walk on the longest. It is also important that this shoe perfectly matches your wedding location. It is wise to consider the season in which you are getting married. After all, it is not very comfortable to wear summer sandals on a winter day in the fall. You will be standing on your legs for the most part on your wedding day, so choose your most ideal and comfortable wedding shoes with the help of this wedding shoes guide.
Comfort
Comfort is pretty much at the top of the list when it comes to choosing wedding shoes, because aching feet on your big day is the last thing you want. If you have wider feet, it is not wise to opt for the standard satin shoes. Satin wedding shoes do not stretch with your foot, so there is a good chance that the shoes will pinch. Do you have wider feet and still want to shine in satin shoes? Then check out our collection of satin shoes made especially for wider feet. Another option are the leather wedding shoes, leather does stretch and mold to the shape of your foot. Has it always been your dream to wear Pumps at your wedding? High heels give you a feminine look, your legs seem longer and in addition you stand up straighter, the chance that you get painful feet is however present. Especially when you want to be on the dance floor late into the night during the party, high heels are not ideal. You can wear your dream heels only during the ceremony and exchange them for Ballerinas or our gorgeous sneakers during the party. Comfort has largely to do with the height of the heel, not many people can walk around painlessly and throughout the day in heels. Therefore, using the method explained later in this blog, measure from home what heel height is most suitable for your feet.
Wedding location on the big day
The location of your wedding is also important when choosing a wedding shoe. After all, walking on sky-high heels through the sand, sinking towards the altar will not look very smooth. Also, wearing stilettos is not ideal if you have to walk for a long time over crooked tiles or other uneven surfaces. Sandals, ballerinas and sneakers, on the other hand, are ideal for an outdoor wedding wonderful for the beach, in the woods or any other beautiful outdoor location. For an outdoor wedding, please note that shoes made of satin are very fragile and therefore not recommended to wear in a meadow or in the woods. Should you still want to wear heels, wedding shoes with a strap are a good alternative. The strap provides more support, allowing you to walk more relaxed and stable even over non-level surfaces. Stilettos can, of course, be worn at a wedding in a beautiful indoor location, such as a castle or estate.
The season of your wedding
Dpes your wedding take place in spring or summer? Then sandals are definitely a fine shoe to wear on your big day! The shoe contains a lot of room to move because the model is quite open, which is of course nice to wear on a hot day. Besides sandals, open bridal shoes are also perfect to wear in spring or summer. The model of the shoe gives the feet a lot of room to breathe, which makes this shoe ideal to wear in high temperatures, among other things. If your wedding takes place in the fall or winter, it is better to leave out the summer models. Instead, opt for a pair of ballerinas, pumps or sneakers. Your feet are better protected from the cold in these shoes, which is certainly not a luxury on a winter day.
The perfect match with your wedding dress
When ypu pick out your wedding shoes, you should also consider the color, length and style of your wedding dress. If your wedding is all about vintage and this style also matches your dress, it is nice to choose vintage wedding shoes. Also, make sure the color of your dress matches the shoes. Are you marrying in an ivory dress? Then make sure you choose ivory shoes and not white shoes, as white and ivory will clash. However, you can go for a pronounced color, such as pink. In addition, you should also consider the length of the dress in relation to the height of the heel. In fact, there is a big difference between 12-centimeter heels and flat shoes. Tip: take your shoes with you to your fitting session, so that the dress can be perfectly tailored.
How high should your wedding shoes be?
If you are unsure about which heel height you want, we recommend using this simple method. It allows you to measure for yourself which heel height is most suitable for your foot. This all has to do with the flexibility of the talus, a bone located just above the ankle. If your talus bone is flexible, that means your feet can handle walking in high heels. If your talus is not flexible, it is better to go for flat shoes on your wedding day. If you choose to wear heels, we offer comfort spray, heel grips, non-slip gel pads and gel insoles to make walking as comfortable as possible. Test out the theory on your feet now following the steps below:
- Take a seat on a chair and make sure you have no shoes or socks on.
- Extend your leg in front of you and let your foot hang relaxed in front of you.
- Have a friend, your partner or someone else measure the distance between the ball of your foot (point A) and your heel (point B), as shown in the illustration above.
- The number of centimeters between point A and point B is your ideal heel height.
Different types of heels
Now that you have measured your ideal heel height, you can choose the type of heel and, of course, its height. Again, keep in mind the location of your wedding, because walking down the sand to the altar in stiletto heels is not exactly a so-called "match made in heaven."
High Heels: High Heels are ideal if you want to narrow the height difference between you and your partner. High heels make you look extra attractive and sexy and also provide an upright posture due to the height of the heels. However, if you are not used to walking in high heels, this is not really a comfortable alternative for your wedding day. Should you go for the high heels start breaking in a few weeks in advance so that painful feet are spared you during the wedding. In addition, we also sell gel pads and insoles that provide more comfort with walking in heels.
Wedge heel: The Wedge heel is a very comfortable heel due to its large and wide surface. Even though you create a lot of length due to the height, the heel is more comfortable than other heels because the heel is continuous. The wide heel allows you to walk more stably, this also makes it easier to walk on tricky surfaces, such as mud or grass. If you necessarily want to wear a heel and are looking for comfort, the wedge heel is the right choice.
Block heel: The Block heel is actually an intermediate form of stiletto and wedge heels. This shoe has a slightly tougher look, but with high comfort and stability. The thick heel gives you more control and you will wobble less while walking. Because of this reason, block heels are also very good to wear on bumpy surfaces.
Platform heel: Wedding shoes with a platform are comfortable and also make your legs look longer and slimmer because of the high heel. As with High Heels, your posture changes positively as you stand higher which causes you to stand straighter. Despite the comfort, do consider the height of the heel if you are not used to walking in heels often..
Flat: For brides who do not need extra height or simply prefer not to wear (high) heels, flat bridal shoes are a good choice. The shoes have great comfort due to the very flat to almost flat heel located under the sole. Ideal for partying all evening without getting sore feet.
