Music is an important part of your wedding. Music creates atmosphere, cosiness, and so much more. Just watch a film without music and sound – it’s boring! And that’s the last thing your wedding should be. Good music that everyone can enjoy is essential for your special day.

Music for your wedding ceremony

The most important thing is that the wedding music fits in well with the atmosphere you wish to have on the day. This can of course vary throughout your wedding. You may have a very emotional song during the ceremony, a slow ballad at the opening dance, background music during the meal, and up-tempo beats at the wedding afterparty.

Depending on your budget, there are several options as to who will provide the music for your wedding. You can go for a band, a DJ, a singer, or just put on a wedding playlist that you have compiled yourself. Live music is often a more expensive option for your wedding, but it’s still very nice. A DJ can really bring the wedding party to life, but a good playlist makes for a nice change, especially if you take your guests' music tips into account.

In our blog "How much does it cost to get married", we tell you more about the average costs of a wedding. For music, couples spend an average of €1,750. This budget is spent on a live band with additional lighting and sound equipment hired as well.

Band music for your wedding

Live music at weddings is, of course, the highlight at any wedding. A wedding band quickly creates atmosphere and can flexibly adapt to the party and mood. They can also easily adjust to the wedding music preferences of the guests.

Wedding DJ

A wedding DJ can adjust the songs exactly to the mood and easily respond to requests and changes. Furthermore, DJs often have a wider selection and can play without limitation. In addition, a DJ for a wedding often takes up less budget and space than live music.

Some DJs also have their own lighting system with a disco ball, black light, smoke machine, and more. This can of course be a great advantage for your party mood.

Wedding playlist

Putting together a playlist for your wedding is something you can do with your partner. Discuss what you like and make a playlist based on the atmosphere you want your wedding to have, and if necessary, make different playlists for different situations. This way, you have several types of music for different situations at your wedding.

  • Ceremony: Often a slower, special song for the arrival of the bride.
  • Reception: Fun music that sets the mood, such as Raise your glass by Pink.
  • Dinner: Music which is more suitable as background music, so that the guests can chat with others during dinner and enjoy the food.
  • Cutting the cake: Music with the word Cake, Sugar or Sweet is a nice touch to the cutting moment, such as Sugar by Maroon 5.
  • Party: During the party, make sure that there’s a mix of everything, so that all the guests, young or old, can enjoy the tunes.

Tip: Before the wedding, have your guests send you a music request via your wedding website (new blog, link coming later) or via a short message so that when you compile your wedding list, every guest has heard a song they love. If you compile the playlist yourself, you can choose the songs and consider your guests’ tastes.

The Beautiful Bride Shop Playlist

To help you out, of course, and because it's just so much fun, we've created some playlists for your own wedding! We’ve got you covered for:

  • Ceremony
  • Reception
  • The Dinner
  • Wedding Cake Cutting
  • Party

Important questions to ask yourself for your music

  1. Who will provide the tech for the wedding music?
  2. Arrange with your wedding venue where and when the band or DJ can set up and take down their equipment.
  3. How you can arrange the breaks of the band or DJ and whether or not to play music during that time.
  4. What do you do if the DJ or band cannot come due to illness, busy traffic, etc.?

As a final tip, we'd like to suggest that you always allow for the unexpected and that you and your partner put some time into creating a wedding playlist. It's always smart to have a backup if something goes wrong or if you're not happy with how things turned out. And even if you don't use it, you'll still have a great memory and, as a bonus, an atmospheric playlist.

We as The Beautiful Bride Shop hope you’ve received some useful information from this blog. We hope you’ll enjoy preparing the music for your beautiful day. See you then!
